The members of the SYDNEY MARITIME MODELLERS CLUB meet at Norwest Lake each Saturday.
Our main activity is the racing of radio controlled yachts. The yachts themselves can be purchased complete, or as many of our members do “build your own”.
Advice on what to purchase or assistance with building is always available from our members.
Radio controlled yachts come in many sizes or classes. At Norwest we sail two classes, SOLINGS & INTERNATIONAL ONE METRE but we also have a mixed handicap fleet which accepts a variety of yacht types.
Model yacht racing has taken place in Sydney since the early 1900’s and with the coming of radio control has spread far and wide . There are few countries around the world that don’t have radio sailing yacht clubs. Our club is affiliated with the Australian Radio Yacht Association (ARYA) which in turn is affiliated with the International Sailing Federation Radio Sailing Division.
We are always on the lookout for new members so that if you feel you could be interested in the sport come along any Saturday (see sailing times above) and speak to one of the members and also have the opportunity to try your hand at sailing with one of our member’s yacht..
